Evaluation of MuCCRA-D: A Dynamically Reconfigurable Processor with Directly Interconnected PEs

چکیده
Coarse-grained dynamically reconfigurable processor arrays (DRPAs) have been received an attention as a flexible and efficient off-loading engine for various types of System-on-Chips (SoCs). Interconnection in these architectures is one of the important factors to be evaluated. MuCCRA-1, the first prototype of MuCCRA(MultiCore Configurable Reconfigurable Architecture) project, uses a typical island-style interconnection in its PE array. Although the island-style interconnection is flexible, the large delay time caused by passing multiple switches and long wires often degrades its clock frequency. In this paper, MuCCRA-D, a dynamically reconfigurable processor which uses direct interconnection between neighboring PEs, is designed and evaluated. The evaluation results show that the required semiconductor area for MuCCRA-D is 12% smaller than that of MuCCRA-1 by reducing wiring resource in the interconnection. Since higher clock frequency can be used, DCT, α-Blending, Bubble-Sort and SHA-1 implemented on the MuCCRA-D are 3.84 times faster than MuCCRA-1 at maximum .

A Self-Test of Dynamically Reconfigurable Processors with Test Frames
This paper proposes a self-test method of coarse grain dynamically reconfigurable processors (DRPs) without hardware overhead. In the method, processor elements (PEs) compose a test frame, which consists of test pattern generators (TPGs), processor elements under test (PEUTs) and response analyzers (RAs), while testing themselves one another by changing test frames appropriately. We design seve...
متن کاملConfiguration with Self-Configured Datapath: A High Speed Configuration Method for Dynamically Reconfigurable Processors
Configuration with Self-configured Data Path (CSDP) is a high speed configuration data loading method for Dynamically Reconfigurable Processors (DRPs). By using a prepared configuration data, a network for computation in DRPs can be used as a configuration data path when the computation is stalled and the controller requires the configuration data transfer. Design and implementation of a DRP ca...
متن کاملA Coarse-Grain FPGA Overlay for Executing Data Flow Graphs
We explore the feasibility of using a coarse-grain overlay to transparently and dynamically accelerate the execution of hot segments of code that run on soft processors. The overlay, referred to as the Virtual Dynamically Reconfigurable (VDR), is tuned to realize data flow graphs in which nodes are machine instructions and the edges are inter-instruction dependences. A VDR consists of an array ...
متن کاملMapping Applications to Coarse-Grain Reconfigurable Architectures
Coarse-grained reconfigurable architectures (CGRAs) are capable of achieving both goals of high performance and flexibility. CGRAs not only improve performance by exploiting the features of repetitive computations, but also can adapt to diverse computations by dynamically changing configurations of an array of its internal processing elements (PEs) and their interconnections. Many CGRAs have be...
متن کاملAn Efficient Operation Mapping Scheme on Hypercube- based Coprocessors with Reconfigurable Datapath
In spite of many advantages, ASICs are in restricted use because of lack of flexibility and high design cost. Research to bring the strong points of GPPs into ASICs has been conducted recently. Dynamically reconfigurable datapath coprocessors are employed so as to speed the dataand computation-intensive applications up. The coprocessors consist of a set of PEs and each operation is mapped to on...
